What to do this weekend – Summer kick off

Summer kickoffSomething you may not know about me is that I have been to over 100 concerts. This includes big names and smaller shows, but I love going to see a band play live. Most of the shows I’ve seen were in summer – so to me, the kick off to summer marks the kick off to concert season. This weekend, I plan on getting my daughter started with her first “concert” (I think it counts as a concert, but it could be considered more theater-like) – Sesame Street Live is here in Charlottesville singing all the kids’ favorites. After all the excitement, jump over to Bounce-n-play and let the kids bounce to their heart’s content and they might even sleep in with sweet dreams for everyone.

A theater trip for the parents is also on deck – The Shakespeare Theater is doing A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Package it with a stay at Stonewall Jackson hotel in Staunton and it is a holiday weekend staycation.

And to stick with the history theme, in case you haven’t heard, Charlottesville is a young and vibrate 250-year-old city. This weekend there are a lot of historical fun things to do at the Virginia Festival of History. Most of them are downtown – stop off at Tempo to grab some great food while you are there.

Bonus weekend day gets a bonus fun thing to do: Most public pools open this weekend. It looks like the weather is going to cooperate with all the swimming fanatics out there. Make a SPLASH and have some FUN! We have a new partner that specializes in water fun – you can learn to SCUBA and you can plan a SCUBA pool party! (yes please!)

This weekend most people get a bonus day off in honor of Memorial Day. We would like to take a moment to say thanks to those who have served.

What are you doing this weekend?
